FEELING A BIT MAUDLIN?

Word Of The Week

Maudlin [mawd-lin]

adjective

tearfully or weakly emotional; foolishly sentimental

After months of retrogrades, strict Capricorn transits, and a Mars / Pluto conjunction in the later degrees of Capricorn like the cherry on top, we’ve essentially stepped into a new reality. Better? Worse? That’s for you to decide. Different. For me, since the Venus retrograde began in mid December, the general feeling that persisted over the past three and a half months was heaviness, anxiety, overwhelm and loss. But something clicked in me this week, unintentionally timed with Mars and Venus entering Aquarius and Mercury entering Pisces. My mood shifted from heavy to soft. It’s not that it’s lighter, but it feels more kind. Instead of feeling frustrated or angry I’ve just been feeling emotional. I mean I cried watching a video of my cats. Harsh edges and sharp points rounded, and I’ve found myself able to see light that’s ahead once again. Perhaps this is seasonal depression lifting with the sun’s return, but as I always say, astrology is a tool. It is neither the cause nor the effect but simply a tool for further observation and understanding into our psyche.

So what does this mean?

Pisces season is always a time for dreamy reflection and introspection. Our dreams come alive and our creativity flows. This year, however, we are also graced with not only one, but BOTH of Pisces’ rulers, Jupiter and Neptune, transiting along with the sun. Whenever the sun is transiting through a sign the same time as the signs ruling planet, I like to think the season as a whole is exaggerated. We get to experience the season amplified, with a spotlight on all things Pisces. You may have noticed an immediate shift on Saturday, March 5th, and surrounding days, which was the Jupiter Cazimi (Jupiter/Sun conjunction). Flood gates opened, inspiration abound, optimism high and emotions flowed. Perhaps it was a moody day for you – unusual highs quickly followed by unusual lows. Maybe an idea clicked that you’d been struggling with for a while. Something eased that had been weighing on you. An opportunity presented itself, and you opened a new door. An exciting person entered your life, with them bringing hope and optimism for what lies ahead. Whatever the case, this catapulted a shift into a softer reality. This combined with Mars and Venus entering Aquarius, it feels a little more social and community oriented. We’re beginning to see restrictions loosening once again, events encouraged, and gatherings sought out. Today Mercury joins the sun and Jupiter in Pisces, asking us to use our words to paint scenes of beauty and harmony with each other. Our sense of unity is heightened. Mercury’s obsession with intellect and understanding perspectives takes the Piscean energy and turns it into eloquent sentences filled with metaphor and music. If you’re a writer and have felt a bit of a block (like me) now is the time to feel these gates open for us once more. If all of these emotions are exhausting and confusing, journaling will be your best friend for these weeks. On Saturday, March 12, and surrounding days, the sun makes its exact conjunction with Neptune, the other ruler of Pisces. Where Jupiter represents the side of Pisces that is abundant, hopeful, idealistic, visionary and expansive, Neptune represents the side that is a little more abstract. It brings out the unconscious, the dreams, the visions, illusions, and the silence. With the sun illuminating these qualities, we are essentially being shown the things that live in the unseen. All that is unconscious has a moment to be center stage. This can be euphoric, full of psychic wisdom and creative inspiration, divine guidance and excitement, or it can be confusing, full of delusion and manipulation, and fear of the unknown. Keep this in mind either way, for Neptune is a fan of over-indulgence. Do not trust either experience as reality – accept it and allow it to sit for a week before making important decisions that arise in this time. Neptune reminds me of that spirit guide from Avatar the Last Airbender who would steal your face if you showed an emotional reaction…it will guide you where you want to go seemingly effortlessly, but you must stay present and grounded along the way.

Use this time to mend what has been broken if it is worth the repair or to trash the pieces if it is not, pick up the journal that’s collecting dust in your drawer, and hike to a waterfall as soon as the weather allows. Let the Piscean magic flow through you and feel the healing powers of the water. It’s not often we get to feel a season so dramatically; dare to look inside and find what it wants to teach you.

LOVE, JENNA
