MOONS AND HANDS AND NASCENT PICTURES
If you follow my Instagram, you’ve seen my latest deep dive into the significance and symbolism of hands. The new moon in Cancer that happened on June 28th was a beautiful symbol of manifestation, new beginnings and rebirth. For some reason, hands feel like an appropriate connection? I’ve been thinking about them a lot recently, which encouraged me to look a little more deeply at their meaning. I’ll start by speaking on the new moon in Cancer, and what that represents.
Cancer is cardinal water, the home sign of the moon herself. When the moon is in Cancer she is safe, strong, wise and caring. Cancer also represents motherhood, and creating life. So a new moon in Cancer is quite literally representing the beginnings of giving life to something! How gorgeous is that? We’re all at metaphorical turning points. The actions we take now influence our lives longterm– which is true all the time but this week it feels especially potent. I know for me, personally, this new moon is accompanied with several huge shifts and that feeling of excitement combined with discomfort, unfamiliarity, and uncertainty. For someone who loves the idea of change and actively seeks it out, I find myself struggling when it actually arrives. This new moon has felt refreshing, encouraging, and uplifting for me. It feels like I finally have my feet on the ground again and a bit of a foundation to build from. The actions I am taking feel more purposeful, and like I can more clearly see how my choices influence my life as well as which steps to take next. I’ve also been able to let go a little easier recently. I’ve surrendered more to the flow of this existence; understanding that there are some things that are truly out of my control, and to focus more intentionally on the things I can control.
This brings me to hands. Our hands represent the things we can control. The physical power to change, build, and hold. When entering a new romantic relationship, the first thing to light a spark is often the touching of hands. Similarly, the formal greeting for a stranger (at least in the western world) is the shaking of hands. The initial contact. Our hands test the water before submerging completely. We use our hands to make the food that nurtures our bodies. We hold our hand out to the animal as a sign of invitation, surrender, and safety. When speaking on the manifestation power of the Cancer new moon, our hands represent the raw, physical, and intentional first steps toward accomplishing whatever it is we desire. Our hands ask us to take this beautiful idea and bring it into the physical realm. Our hands are the mediums in which we travel through portals to other dimensions! What we create, hold, nurture, or give with our hands literally propels us into the next direction our lives take. Do not underestimate their power!
For this week, focus on the action you can take toward your manifestations. What exactly are you manifesting? How much of it is in your control? Oftentimes the only part we can control is taking one actionable step. Look down at your hands, remind yourself you have two magic wands attached to your body (and if you don’t have hands/they don’t work, what have you naturally developed to take their symbolic place?). With your magic wands, do one thing at a time and pay attention to how effortlessly they bring things into existence.
