ADDLE-BRAINED DREAMING AND WISHFUL THINKING

Word Of The Week

Addle

ad·dle

adjective

unable to think clearly; confused

I imagine this week is what being sucked into a black hole would feel like. Bear with me, I understand the physics of what I’m about to say doesn’t make sense, but until someone gets sucked into a black hole and comes back to tell the tale, I’ll use my imagination. As you approach the black hole, the pressure would build so much you’d begin to feel like you’re under a million weighted blankets, almost at your limit before your bones crush and dissolve into a million pieces, but just as you feel your body giving up, it instantly releases and you feel light as a feather, literally. This would be the moment when you’re fully submerged inside the black hole, which I like to picture as portals to other dimensions. When it spits you out again, you’re likely somewhere new and will tumble out, dealing with the confusion and exhaustion only then. But the in between phase, the peaceful, light and a bit foggy phase– that’s what this week feels like to me.

We’re in between eclipses; some of the most tangible energy surges in astrology. On April 30th, we felt the effects of the partial solar eclipse in Taurus, but we discussed that last week. Now, in the two weeks of breathing time before the lunar eclipse in Scorpio on May 15, we are carried along by Venus and Jupiter as if we struck one of those star power-up’s in Mario Kart. Everything feels a bit addle-brained, but energetic, and a bit chaotic, but safe. Like the middle of a black hole, or at least my version of it. Venus entered Aries a few days ago, heating up our lust for life, art, and excitement about our relationships and potential new flings. When Jupiter joins in on the fun on May 10, we’re going to be propelled into the buzzing energy of the summer. This is probably going to feel extremely exciting, dramatic, motivating and encouraging. It’s not that you should reject those feelings– they are beautiful and magical and can help lift us out of the deepest of pits– but try to ground them as they come. This way you won’t have too hard of a fall when the lunar eclipse comes along a few days later. In fact, if you can ground those emotions from Venus and Jupiter and wrangle them in, they might just keep you afloat enough to stay hopeful and optimistic during the eclipse. If you let yourself get carried away, there’s a good chance you’ll fall hard come May 15. That’s not meant to scare you, by the way. I love eclipse season, personally. It’s so exciting and unpredictable, and shakes everything up that was laying stagnant during the long winter months. I heard somewhere that your brain can’t tell the difference between anxiety and excitement, and that an anxiety trick is to tell yourself over and over again you’re just excited. I’m not sure it’s ever worked for me, but worth a shot. The point is that while change is inevitably uncomfortable, it’s also how all the magic happens. If everything didn’t change, how bored would we all be?! Can you imagine? Eclipses are like roller coasters we all get to ride together a few times a year.

When you reclaim the power in your perspective, like we’ve talked about before, eclipses can shift from scary to exciting. It’s not about ignoring the bad feelings as they arise, either. It’s about riding all of the emotional waves as if you were a professional surfer, and as Mars is in Pisces through all of this, I can’t think of any better time to learn to surf. Observe the fear as it comes, and ride it even, but also watch as it crashes into the sea like the rest of the waves. When eclipse season ends, we’ll be back in the fall and preparing for another long winter. With the lows of eclipse season also comes the highs, try to remember that. Jupiter has your back for this one and wants to shove all that you’re learning directly in your face until you can find a reason to smile from it. Smile, if you want to, and know that you’ll be out of the black hole soon, probably talking about how cool it was while you were inside.

LOVE, JENNA
